My name is Samantha Whitney and I graduated from Ithaca College in May 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Heath Promotion and Physical Education. During my undergraduate at IC I was a member of the Ithaca Women’s Lacrosse team. I also played intermural volleyball, was a member of the HPPE majors club, and was a volunteer in various community service events in the Ithaca Community. I was on the Dean’s list years 2011, 2012 and 2013. I also received the Student Athlete Academic Award as well as the HPPE Professional Excellence Award. I gained knowledge and experience through my student teaching at Candor Elementary school teaching physical education and teaching health education at Newfield Central School. I gained professional experience as well through my Student Teaching presentation to Ithaca teacher community members as well as professors and staff at IC.

During my time at Newfield I realized that I wanted to pursue my master’s in health education. I am currently a health education graduate student with a graduate assistantship. After receiving my master’s degree in health education at IC, my plans are to find a job in health education at the secondary level or work in a community health setting. My experiences at Ithaca College have allowed me to gain knowledge, experience and opportunities in the health education field.
