HIV- Human Immunodeficiency Virus

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus is a virus that weakens the immune system in the host of a human being. The virus multiplies and weakens the immune system by destroying t-cells or CD4 cells which fight off viruses and infections. HIV first symptoms may be similar to the cold or flu, which can go undetected.  After a period of time, many of the CD4 cells  get destroyed by the virus leading to a low cell count. Once the cell count becomes very low HIV then becomes AIDS (the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).

AIDS- Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome

The Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome is when the CD4 cells become so low that without medical assistance the body cannot fight viruses or bacteria that may harm the body. The immune system is then deficient, because it is unable to fight infection or disease which may cause complications and differentiating symptoms. The individual is then at risk to complications of AIDS which could lead to serious illness or death by another disease.
